Recording the Substance of a Dream
Have you ever seen one of those 3d images that you have to stare at a certain way, cross your eyes for about 30 min before the image comes into focus? Some people put their nose up to the picture and walk back slowly and eventually they can see. Here’s an example: (it’s a shark)

My point is, that if you stare too much at the tiny dots and ripples, you will never be able to see the bigger picture….Our job is to focus on the substance of our dream, pray, and allow God to impart His wisdom to help us understand and see clearly.
Daniel 7:1 "In the first year of Belshazzar king of Babylon, Daniel had a dream, and visions passed through his mind as he was lying on his bed. He wrote down the substance of his dream."
Entire chapter of Daniel 7: http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=daniel%207;&version=50;
If you read Daniel 7, he doesn’t go into detail about every little tee-ninecy thing. He states the main points without leaving important details out. If we focus on the details and try to interpret dreams by all the different symbols, then we lose focus of the main picture.
Details ARE important!
Never put your dream in a nutshell. Daniel wrote down the substance of his dream. (click here to read Daniel Chapter 4: http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=daniel%204;&version=50; )
Can you imagine if king Nebuchadnezzar had merely told Daniel he had a dream he was a tree? Daniel may have asked him “Is that it?” Details are very important and are neccesary to recieve full understanding of a dream.
