When You Have to Cut Your Friends Loose

Post by redwomanwalking on Fri Apr 09, 2010 9:39 am

...because you feel that they are bringing you down spiritually, pray for charity first. Pray that God shows you the right way in love so you don't hurt them willingly. Sometimes, you just have to move on. I get a feeling that God cannot progress with a blessing for me because of this situation. I might be wrong, but I'm cutting them loose in good conscience anyway, knowing that I've been there for them and have offered up prayers for their well-being even without them knowing it. They don't comprehend because they do not love Him. What I have gotten back from kindness and genuineness is anger and treachery and a willingness to accuse wrongly. It's okay, anyway, I know they are angry with God and I'm just on the receiving end of that. Be charitable despite the persecution.

So, if you find yourself in this situation, you will definitely be hurt but follow the Lord each and every day. Do things His way. Do not give up. He will provide those in your life who will edify you. He will.

I can be touched by this because I've had to cut quite a few people out of my life in this season. The thing is, it didn't hurt me or them. God has a way of doing things and it leaves both sides okay. I know there will be a "crossing of paths" somewhere down the line with a few of them, but for now, they are enjoying their lives and I'm enjoying mine.

I had to understand where God was taking me...my purpose in THIS season. When I figured it out and realized people were dragging me down and it was slowing up my progress, something happened where things just began to dissapate. There weren't really any hard feelings (accept for one person, but she's not really a Christian), and that made it good for me. I felt the freedom and I'm enjoying this season, practically friendless, because most of my time is spent with the Lord. It can't get ANY BETTER than that!!!

I've been thinking about this same thing a lot in the past few months. I believe that God allowed a situation to happen with a friendship I didn't really want, but the other person was SO in need of a friend. She has SO much spiritual garbage a LOT of demonic oppression going on with her and her children. I think I did ask God in a little forgotten prayer to make a way for me to get out of that friendship if that is what He wanted. I was hurt and relieved all at the same time. God knows that I am not prepared to handle her darkness when He's working on me getting me out of my own oppression.

Amen and Amen! Sometimes people are in your life for a season, they serve a specific purpose in your life and when that purpose is achieved they are no longer meant to be in your life. As well, sometimes people can be a distraction to what the Lord has directed for your life - these people must be removed from your life in order for you to be able to walk into all that the Lord has for you. It is so true that you can sever the friendship in a loving but honest way and keep these friends in prayer that they be blessed and reach their destined place in the Kingdom as well....

Cholette, your words 'practically friendless' really stuck out there for me, I have cut so many people out of my life and the ones that remain are a drain on me. I dont know where i fit or what iam supposed to do? I could say im lonely but i dont really feel it, i have to watch my thoughts tho, because the devil tries to get me comparing and 'feeling'. I trust God 100% and know that He has a plan for me and this season is a part of that plan. When i need a friend or need to talk i go to God, but today i wish He had arms and ears x

Ooooooh, you all know I can be touched by this too...right Cholette?
I've had to cut off a few friendships myself....people from work. They were Friends that do not love God. They were very bad influences on my life. Even when I tried to break it off in a good way...they did not understand. They do not respect my choices and my love for the Lord. But I have been meeting new friends at work they do love God....so it helps to have them there to lean on.

But outside of work...I have been in a season of quietness....waiting on the Lord to send me to a good church where I can meet christian friends.

The seasons of "Quietness" are the best. That's where I'm at. Although I'm in school and I have a little part time job and I'm around people throughout the day, it's still quiet. Those are the seasons where we are set apart and we are drawn to the Word of God to be counseled by the Holy Spirit. I LOVE IT!!!

Take advantage of these seasons. It's great to have friends, if that's the season we are in, but if it's not...think about it as a time that God has cut out for you to become more intimate with Him. WOW...an Almighty God doing all of that for us??? Think about it...utilize it...it's awesome!!!
