Terrifying Dreams

Post by elisa.fred on Thu Dec 31, 2009 9:23 pm

I was wondering if you could help me with interpreting my dreams.
Lately I've been having nightmares a few times a week. Only 2 really seem to stick out. One nightmare
that I experienced was terrifying. It was probably a couple months ago that it occurred.

I was walking in this old
grey city-- the feeling was kind of like that in the movie War of the
Worlds. As I was walking down a street I noticed the people around me
didn't seem to have souls. They were walking silently with blank stares
and it was as if I knew there was something terribly wrong with them. I
then ran down the streets screaming and asking people what was going on
and who did this. As I was running a man sitting on a low wall dressed
all in black with sunglasses on grabbed me by the arm, turned me to
him, and said, "it's because of me" "look into my eyes and you will
understand..."

He then removed his sunglasses and I stared into his eyes. They
seemed normal at first-- kind of a deep bluish green. But then... the
black pupils of his eyes like.. expanded? and they filled the whole
colored part of his eye. The thought that came to mind was that it
reminded me of like black holes. Then I felt a pain in the pit of my
stomach underneath my ribs and I look down. In horror I see that I am
disintegrating into ashes from the pit of my stomach outwards. And as
my body burns from there out in a circle my scream fades and I blow
away as dust in the wind. Then I started to wake up--- not suddenly
though-- very slowly. Like coming up from underwater almost.

I'm wondering what it might mean and if someone would help me that would be great.

I have a slightly different take on this dream. I agree that there is a lot of fear in both dreams however I don't believe that these dreams are from the enemy which is what I inferred from traveller's post ("...to instill fear and wear us down." - traveller, if I misunderstood what you were saying then I apologize). It is the position of this ministry that the devil cannot give us dreams, he can influence our thoughts and those thoughts can manifest into nightmares but Satan cannot give us dreams, there's no biblical basis of this. There is an informative teaching on the site that discusses this (it was quite a lively discussion... lol! ) here is the link to it - I encourage everyone to read it, there's a lot of good stuff there:

http://miasherwood.forumotion.net/dream-and-vision-questions-f6/has-anyone-had-a-dream-they-believe-that-is-100-from-the-devil-t1249.htm

In the first dream, I believe the emotions that you experienced are similar to something you are feeling in real life and the Lord is showing you that these feelings must be dealt with - there is something killing you inside, bit by bit it's destroying you. This is what the scene where you're literally turning to dust means to me. Dust in the Bible is among other things a term used to describe man (Genesis 18:27 - Then Abraham answered and said, “Indeed now, I who am but dust and ashes have taken it upon myself to speak to the Lord:; Psalm 103:14 - For He knows our frame;He remembers that we are dust.) and dust also is used to describe death (Job 10:9 - Remember, I pray, that You have made me like clay.And will You turn me into dust again?; Ecclesiastes 3:20 - All go to one place: all are from the dust, and all return to dust.).

The dream may indeed have to do with someone who, in the midst of a bad situation, you trusted because they appeared trustworthy but they deceived you and caused you damage. The other lost souls may be others who have suffered at the hands of this person or they may be lost for other reasons. The setting suggests that it is an issue from the past because the city is old and worn. The second dream I feel is more of the same theme. I believe God is showing you this so that He can heal you of this pain/fear that you are carrying in real life (IRL). This is also why you've been experiencing this in your dreams on a recurring basis.

This is a demonstration of God's lovingkindness that He is reaching out to you to tell you that He wants to help you get through this so that you can become the woman that He has destined you to become and receive the things that He has in store for you!

Please pray about what I've said to make sure it lines up with what's in your spirit and disregard anything that doesn't align, ok?

I also totally agree with traveller that you should not seek the assistance of a hypnotherapist. When we allow ours spirit to fall under the control of someone else, we leave our selves extremely vulnerable. I would suggest as well that you try to locate a christian counselor (PM me if you are interested in learning more about this, I can send you links to websites that can assist you, one is from a nationally known team of christian therapists who have a syndicated radio show/ministry - they have books, workshops, etc.).

In the meantime, here is some scripture that I would like to leave with you to comfort and encourage you. The first part of Isaiah 40 came to mind as I read your dream:

1 “Comfort, yes, comfort My people!”
Says your God.
2 “ Speak comfort to Jerusalem, and cry out to her,
That her warfare is ended,
That her iniquity is pardoned;
For she has received from the LORD’s hand
Double for all her sins.”
3 The voice of one crying in the wilderness:

“ Prepare the way of the LORD;
Make straight in the desert[a]
A highway for our God.
4 Every valley shall be exalted
And every mountain and hill brought low;
The crooked places shall be made straight
And the rough places smooth;
5 The glory of the LORD shall be revealed,
And all flesh shall see it together;
For the mouth of the LORD has spoken.”

But the 61st chapter of Isaiah is very relevant, I pray that you'll be blessed by it(I've bolded those verses that made me think of you):

Isaiah 61
The Good News of Salvation
1 “The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon Me,
Because the LORD has anointed Me
To preach good tidings to the poor;
He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted,
To proclaim liberty to the captives,
And the opening of the prison to those who are bound;
2 To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD,
And the day of vengeance of our God;
To comfort all who mourn,
3 To console those who mourn in Zion,
To give them beauty for ashes,
The oil of joy for mourning,
The garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness;
That they may be called trees of righteousness,
The planting of the LORD, that He may be glorified.”
4 And they shall rebuild the old ruins,
They shall raise up the former desolations,
And they shall repair the ruined cities,
The desolations of many generations.
5 Strangers shall stand and feed your flocks,
And the sons of the foreigner
Shall be your plowmen and your vinedressers.
6 But you shall be named the priests of the LORD,
They shall call you the servants of our God.
You shall eat the riches of the Gentiles,
And in their glory you shall boast.
7 Instead of your shame you shall have double honor,
And instead of confusion they shall rejoice in their portion.
Therefore in their land they shall possess double;
Everlasting joy shall be theirs.
8 “ For I, the LORD, love justice;
I hate robbery for burnt offering;
I will direct their work in truth,
And will make with them an everlasting covenant.
9 Their descendants shall be known among the Gentiles,
And their offspring among the people.
All who see them shall acknowledge them,
That they are the posterity whom the LORD has blessed.”
10 I will greatly rejoice in the LORD,
My soul shall be joyful in my God;
For He has clothed me with the garments of salvation,
He has covered me with the robe of righteousness,
As a bridegroom decks himself with ornaments,
And as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.
11 For as the earth brings forth its bud,
As the garden causes the things that are sown in it to spring forth,
So the Lord GOD will cause righteousness and praise to spring forth before all the nations.

Love and Blessings to you,

Lurdys
