a firm foundation in Christ

Post by halva on Mon Jan 02, 2012 6:55 pm

I have been a Christian for about 11/12 years but haven't done very well. What would be a workable plan for getting a firm foundation in Christ that I could do step by step? The bible seems so daunting at times and sometimes I have spent long periods in bible study, but still somehow I don't seem to be moving on and I'm not clear what I ought to be doing to get a firm foundation.

what you need to understand is you ALREADY have a firm foundation in Christ

knowing this should make you happy and empower you to just start doing what the Word says in whatever situations you face

Excellent response Cloud. Most excellent. Halva. Just start with a little study at a time. Study on a verse and a let the Lord speak to you in daily application about that one verse. Then move to the next. It is so amazing to see him move in this way and this is how we come to know him personally. We learn his characteristics and his ways and we can apply them to our daily lives. Look for him in the little things we do each day. Thank him for everything. Not moving sometimes is a good thing....but trust me, you are moving because you are seeking ways to learn more. Remember that he never gives us more than we can handle and that all of us are unique and learn differently. I learn through the little things a lot and he seems to speak to me a lot there. Just trust him in all things. Soon you will look back and wonder how it happened that you changed so much and learned so much. You will see.

Love in Jesus,

Connie

Love this too Connie!!! I so agree!

Also, if the Bible is so daunting for you right now, maybe spend a little more time in intimate prayer and walks with God. I find that "mixing things up" sometimes helps. When I talk to God like he's my best friend, I find that my connection with him becomes stronger and then my perspective of his word changes. Instead of it being "duty" work to read the Bible, it becomes a pleasure and something I want to do to read his words to me.

Hope this helps...I'll be praying for you because I know how you are feeling.

AMEN, I agree with what Cloud Connected, Cholette and Connie. They all hit the nail on the HEAD! Satan's job is to deceive us and undermine us from God's truth. Talk to the Lord for He is YOUR BFF :). Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life. He wnats you to be close to Him, so close to Him that His Word breathes naturally on you. Whatever scripture you meditate on, as the Lord, what is it He wants you to learn from or get our of Him and what He wants for you! John 10:10 is a clue for what He desires for us. He wants us to have life and havit more abundantly through Him. He wants us to be rooted in Him, by getting to know Him, believe Him, trust Him and MOST OF ALL TO REALLY, REALLY LOVE HIM! :)

I pray That your relationship with Him becomes stronger and stronger each day and may He remove anything that is hindering your walk with Him. May He open your spiritual ears that you listen to what He has to say. May He open your spiritual eyes that you see it from His Perspective and blesses you to understand. May He open your spiritual heart that you receive His Spirit of truth, peace, clarity, deliverance and victory! May He strengthen you and keep you. God bless!

Hi halva,
Many wonderful words have been said about how to get closer to God. If you don't mind, I'd love to share some of my experience with you.
I believe that what will bring you through all the jungle of doubts, fears, all that darkness that seems to surround us when we try to get closer to God is your LOVE for your Heavenly Daddy! Once you learn how good and awesome He is there is NOTHING that can possibly stop you from moving on and on and on until the moment comes when you leave all the struggle behind and it's like someone turned on the Light!
This Love will get you through anything, It won't let you stop even if you wanted to.
As you are continuing on your path closer to the Lord, on each turn He will amaze you with more and more of His Love for you. I find that the further you go, the faster your progress is. Before it seemed like I was stuck on the same level for months. Now it's like I am not even walking, but running up the stairs to His Throne! It gets easier as you continue!
When I first started I was so confused over practically everything. I was so mixed up, I did not think I will ever figure anything out! But I pressed as I have seen and felt the Love for my God and His Love for me and it never let go. This love connection will always be there, for whole eternity!
At first when I just started, I was not even reading the Bible that often. I thought I could not handle it. I started by listening to awesome Spirit filled preachings of the Word. It's like a baby is being fed with milk first. Then I dug into the Bible. I am not saying that I am getting it all. There is so much wisdom and such spiritual wealth in God's Written Word that we'd need an eternity to fully grasp it. But as I read it it's like I am touching the Heart of my God, because it's His Word, and its Him!! I can't even describe with words what kind of feeling this is. It cannot be compared with anything else out there! And as you read it, He will breathe on His Word and it will come alive for you. You can also ask Him questions. I did and He does answer. All of a sudden it's like - WOW! How could I not see this before! Thank You, Daddy!
Walking every day hand in hand with my Lord God is the greatest delight of my whole life! His Love will never ever fail you, it will never quit on you!

God bless!!
