the word "Wrestle"

Post by Cloud on Sun Dec 18, 2011 1:21 pm

i'm still so confused on what god expects of me in regards to this subject

i've shared the Word i received back in 2007 where God said that i must "WRESTLE" my sin to the ground

that's the word that was used...wrestle

the only problem is, i've not been able to do that

time and time again i ALWAYS fall at some point

i'm assuming God was referring to pornography...what else would it have been about it? i don't know.

secondly, how am i supposed to know that it has been OFFICIALLY beaten?

i expect God to revisit this old Word and clarify to me what He meant because for the past 4 years now...i haven't done it

You know what the word reminds me of!
I think this is the intensity of wrestling that God is telling you to do.

Genesis 32:22-31

Amplified Bible (AMP)

22But he rose up that [same] night and took his two wives, his two women servants, and his eleven sons and passed over the ford [of the] Jabbok.

23And he took them and sent them across the brook; also he sent over all that he had.

24And Jacob was left alone, and a Man wrestled with him until daybreak.

25And when [the [a]Man] saw that He did not prevail against [Jacob], He touched the hollow of his thigh; and Jacob's thigh was put out of joint as he wrestled with Him.

26Then He said, Let Me go, for day is breaking. But [Jacob] said, I will not let You go unless You declare a blessing upon me.

27[The Man] asked him, What is your name? And [in shock of realization, whispering] he said, Jacob [supplanter, schemer, trickster, swindler]!

28And He said, Your name shall be called no more Jacob [supplanter], but Israel [contender with God]; for you have contended and have power with God and with men and have prevailed.

29Then Jacob asked Him, Tell me, I pray You, what [in contrast] is Your name? But He said, Why is it that you ask My name? And [b][the Angel of God declared] a blessing on [Jacob] there.

30And Jacob called the name of the place Peniel [the face of God], saying, For I have seen God face to face, and my life is spared and not snatched away.

31And as he passed Penuel [Peniel], the sun rose upon him, and he was limping because of his thigh.

yes i am familiar with this account

but i don't know if it's related to ME

i wish a made a copy of that Word i was given

God said to me "...you must wrestle your sin to the ground".

It was a longer Word but that's the only bit I remember.

I'm pretty sure He said something about my job situation too but again, I don't remember.

I've since then held 3 jobs that never went anywhere.

This sucks.

It's both. It's a battle over your mind. You know, Ephesians 6:12

Amplified Bible (AMP)

12For we are not wrestling with flesh and blood [contending only with physical opponents], but against the despotisms, against the powers, against [the master spirits who are] the world rulers of this present darkness, against the spirit forces of wickedness in the heavenly (supernatural) sphere.

I wouldn't say that it's by Our strength by only by God's strength that we can overcome our failures.

Yes...and this is what I'm trying to get at.

Because IN THAT MOMENT...that moment where I feel the urge to do something...I'm left all by myself to decide whether or not I will do something.

I don't want to have to make a decision anymore amidst that OVERWHELMING urge.

Because I already went 19 days but eventually succumbed to the urge anyway.

What am I missing? The Holy Spirit?

Maybe in that Moment, you can cry out to God for help and for Him to deliver you. Plead the Blood of Jesus over your Mind, Body, soul, spirit, heart, thoughts, conscious, subconscious, over your computer, keyboard, the room your in, walls, floors, doors, ceiling, and whatever. You have to say it all out loud, and find some verses to quote too. I would leave the room and go somewhere else to pray.
I'm telling you that it's a real battle. The enemy plans assaults, he doesn't just leave for good until you have won the war. I don't know what else to tell you right now. I have to get off the computer right now though. So, I'll reply tomorrow.

Not that it won't ever become an unconscious decision at some point, but more than likely you will have to make a choice. Each temptation is a choice. It might not feel like it, but we do have a choice. You can stand up and walk away, or you can stay there where you are submitted to it. I've said it in another post, but you may have to get aggressive with it by physically leaving the place of temptation. It's extreme, but so is sin itself.

Another thing you can do is ask God to change the way you look at this. You're seeing it as the Giant. God is bigger than it, but you have to see that. This temptation is nothing when you are looking at how great God is. The thing is, you have to take your eyes off of it.

So, physically move yourself. Place your thoughts on things OTHER than this issue. Sharpen your sword by looking up verses that speak against it, that oppose it, as well as verse that speak to how huge and powerful our God is. This is how you fight against it. Pray those verses. Speak them out against those things that come against you. These are ways to actively oppose it.

The Holy Spirit helps you when you choose to do these things.

And, like Hind's quoted - our battle is not against flesh and blood. That includes your own physical urges. Recognize them as a spiritual attack, then take the actions above.

I totally agree with everything White said!! Get out of the house totally, take your verses with you to pray. You'll get some exercise too.

Amen, Hinds and White!!

Cloud, I also wanted to add my opinion. In the past I have struggled with repetitive thoughts and temptations that seemed to plaque me! I asked God to show me why those things were triggers for me, then from there I had some ammunition to fight the enemy with. When God gave me wisdom and insight into my issues it could no longer overwhelm me. Hopefully that makes sense!

Blessings to you!
