repost...NOT wanting to be a role model!

Post by Daisy on Sat Sep 24, 2011 8:32 pm

I had a dream I was in this hospital/high school type place. There were certain areas that were off limits, and me and some others decided to break the rules and go there anyways. I remember a woman from my church coming to gather us to take us out of the building, and saying for us to meet her at a certain time. When we were trying to get out I had to tear a part of the wall out, it had scotch tape that I just ripped right through to get out. I was carrying parts of the structure of the wall, metal beams and stuff. This woman picked us up in a topless jeep, and I just kept carrying all the metal beams, they weren't heavy at all. Then I remember her teenage daughter bragging to her mom about me~like she really looked up to me. I remember thinking, I DONT want to be a role model to this teenage girl!

Is the feeling that you don't want to be a role model accurate in any ways in your life?

Well the only thing I can think of is that some of the moms from my daughters school have been trying to get me to go out with them for a while. I kept putting it off, as big social gatherings are not my strong point...due to lack of self confidence. I much prefer getting to know people on a one or two at at time. So I went to dinner with this big group after having this dream, and it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. I actually had a great time, and got to know some new people. Its funny, b/c a lot of these moms were talking about their church, that opened the door for me to ask where they go. Some opened up to me about their lives and some very personal struggles they have been through. A lot of them were having drinks with dinner, which didn't bother me because a lot of my family drink heavily. I was an example by not drinking, and it wasn't a bar atmosphere. I thought I would feel like a weirdo for not drinking, but I had a good time and got to know some really good people. All these moms go to non-spirit filled churches. This is the only thing that I could think of...

The night I went out with them, my husband had to work a midnight shift which I needed to make sure I got home in-time for. Weeks later He told me a story about his shift that night when he was moving all these metal beams that night, to restock the steel at his work. The steel made me think that my hesitation to get connected with these moms was what this dream was about. This is the only thing I can think of...

I think you are correct, the steel was confirmation that your interpretation of the dream was correct because it happened on the same day. =)

Very cool!

I do love working with kids and teens, and love to be role models to younger girls...I used to work with teens who were in jail and would bring a word of encouragement to them each week. I think around my peers, I feel a little more self conscious though (where with teens, they are much more self conscious than I am so I dont feel as much pressure).

Just a question...do you think its possible that the teenager in the dream may symbolize me being an example to 'teenage' Christians on their journey to maturity??

Thanks for the confirmation....

If it did I would question why you didn't want to. I would think that it was about something you didn't want to do, instead of something you did want to do.

I know...thats kinda what threw me off in the dream..b/c I couldn't figure why I would be opposed to being a role model to this girl...

What I was meaning was do you think these women I went out to dinner with represent the teenage girl...meaning being less mature Christians (teenage or baby Christians). I say this with humility...I dont want to sound like I am being boastful at all. But being Spirit filled I feel brings about a different level and maturity in our Christian walk.

It could because you felt like you didn't want to do it.
