Seeking Baptism of the Holy Spirit

Post by Steve Brian on Tue Mar 22, 2011 5:34 pm

PLEASE PRAY FOR ME....

I am reaching out to as many prayer sites as possible, I tired of living a life that is half hearted, a belief that is luke warm. I have been restless in my current profession for 7 years feeling that there is so much more I could be doing and using more of my skills.

I am unemployed my family and I are struggling for money, I am very frustrated having to continue to work at my profession just to barely get by. I have had a situation from out of the blue direct me to the gift of tongues, and then seeking the baptism of the holy spirit.....

I WANT TO BE CLOSE TO GOD AND NOT JUST A FLASH IN THE PAN DEDICATION, I WANT TO RUN AND NOT GROW WEARY....I AM TIRED OF A GOOD ENOUGH ATTITUDE TOWARD CHRIST AND GLORIFYING GOD!!!!

I want the Holy Spirit to kick open the doors of my life and to take me ransom for Christ, and I never want to stray from God's truth, I want to hunger for God's word every day of my life......I want to walk in His Will....I need to submit to his leading and teachings/ To break the bonds of temptations- pornography/pride/arrogance

I AM SEEKING AFTER A WORD IN SEASON....A DIRECTION....

I NEED THE BAPTISM OF THE HOLY SPIRIT!!!!

Blessing to you

STEVE

Hi Steve...

Let me say this to you. To receive the Baptism of the Holy Spirit is simple...just ask!! There are no tricks or schemes. You don't have to have hands laid on you...just simply ask the Lord to feel you with His Spirit and He will. At that point, just relax and whatever you hear, just let it flow off out of your mouth. That's it!!

I received the Baptism of the Holy Spirit in my room...all alone. I asked and my prayer language just flowed.

I can feel your hunger and desire through your words. I know what that feels like. You can have that intimacy with God without speaking in tongues. To think that you need that BEFORE you can have that intimacy with God would say that you have to earn it and Jesus already paid the price on ALL levels for us to have FREE access to the Father...Just believe!!!

...Christ Jesus our Lord, in whom we have boldness and access with confidence through faith in Him. (Ephesians 3:12-13)

Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need (Hebrews 4:16)

Blessings to you!!!

I guarantee it that you have it. Just relax and let the language flow. It will feel silly at first, but it's real.

Hi Steve,

it seems as though the way you wrote you where touched by the holy spirit already. Keep on praying and trusting in god. And when you least expect it god will bless you with the gift of speaking in tongue.

I so remember feeling that way Steve! :o)

The advice to "just let it out" and start making sounds seemed so foreign to me.. and I didn't want a pretend gift, I didn't even know if I actually wanted to speak in tongues at all! What I knew I wanted was Jesus, I wanted the Spirit to fill me up so much that when people saw me, they saw him. I have had a hunger for him that is so strong and so focused, I don't even miss the things I have dropped along the way to him :o) Tongues is very new to me (under 6 months) and there were some verses that helped me heaps...

I read Corinthians 14, (I have downloaded it for you from internet) The blue bits stuck out to me:

1 Follow the way of love and eagerly desire gifts of the Spirit, especially prophecy. 2 For anyone who speaks in a tongue[a] does not speak to people but to God. Indeed, no one understands them; they utter mysteries by the Spirit. 3 But the one who prophesies speaks to people for their strengthening, encouraging and comfort. 4 Anyone who speaks in a tongue edifies themselves, but the one who prophesies edifies the church. 5 I would like every one of you to speak in tongues,[b] but I would rather have you prophesy. The one who prophesies is greater than the one who speaks in tongues,[c] unless someone interprets, so that the church may be edified .... 13 For this reason the one who speaks in a tongue should pray that they may interpret what they say. 14 For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my mind is unfruitful. 15 So what shall I do? I will pray with my spirit, but I will also pray with my understanding; I will sing with my spirit, but I will also sing with my understanding. 16 Otherwise when you are praising God in the Spirit, how can someone else, who is now put in the position of an inquirer,[d] say “Amen” to your thanksgiving, since they do not know what you are saying? 17 You are giving thanks well enough, but no one else is edified.

I know that this passage is all about the gift of prophecy being better than the gift of tongues because prophecy edifies the church and tongues does not [unless it is interpreted...] but what I noticed this time was that the gift of tongues was good - it was just that the gift of prophecy was better.

When I read that the gift of tongues edifies the speaker, and that you speak to God - I wanted that gift very badly for the first time. I truly didn't understand how it would edify me at all, but I trusted that the bible told the truth, and i wanted that communication with God very badly.

I saw also that Paul recommended praying intelligently at the same time as tongues, so I began that way... I went to a quiet place and I prayed in my mind... I allowed my mouth to just make sounds... (I had at this point been asking for the gift of tongues for a week or two) I am a visual person, so I used pictures in my mind to pray and seek God... after all, it was him I sought in any case. I found that the more "in the zone" or... in his presence I got, the more the sounds began to take shape. At first I could only speak in this new language when I was seriously praying and had let go of myself enough in his presence to babble them... it took probably a month before I felt comfortable with them.

I was surprised that it took practice!

I was surprised to find too, that it was edifying!

My mind is completely free when I am speaking in tongues, so I choose to think of Jesus, or picture the healing of the person I am praying for, I find that the tongues opens up my spirit and keeps my mind from wandering while I pray... more multitasking is not possible I guess :o)

I never thought this would happen! It didn't happen till I really wanted it [the gift of tongues] and was prepared to take time out to sit with God for long enough for him to give me a gift.

It has been 5 days since you posted this Steve, so i pray that all this is unnecessary by now, cos' you have already found your answers direct from the source :o)

Blessings to you, Diane.
