Spiritual Warfare

I had a dream the other night, about something that I had been praying about, and I woke up encouraged so I wanted to share the very simple message of encouragment that I received with you.

I had been praying recently to be delivered of some issues that continue to be an irritation in my life. I am certain the issues stem from the enemy and I believe that if I were delivered of the enemy that I would be free of the issues that continue to annoy me. Like Paul, I was seeking the Lord for the thorn to be removed from my side once and for all.

That night when I went to bed, I dreamed that I was talking to a former pastor and telling the pastor that there was no biblical example of a person delivering themself of a demon that had taken up residence. I continued to explain that sometimes we aren't immediately delivered of every thorn in our side, or every messenger of Satan sent to buffet us, but we can overcome even in the situations where we continue to be buffeted.

Then, in the dream, I gave an example of how to overcome demonic attack or strongholds. I saw myself grow five times bigger than the spirit that had been irritating and harassing me in the dream. Then, I began talking sternly to it and taking a very strong stand, stubbornly refusing to be influenced, and feeling how much more power I had than the demon did. The key in the dream seemed to be growing very strong and tall in the Spirit, literally dwarfing the evil spirit, and speaking with power. When I spoke to that demon to take off I knew without a doubt that it was going to flee in fear.

This dream was an awesome answer and encouragment from the Lord that if I remain strong (or grow stronger) in the Spirit, and refuse to be bullied, the evil that prowls around seeking whom it may devour will be powerless against me.

If you are struggling with spiritual warfare, and/or issues in your life, I would encourage you to grow strong in the Spirit, and when you do you will know that you do not have to be bullied or influenced anymore.

How do you do that?

One of the most important aspects of maintaining God's presence, which is the key to spiritual strength, is peace. Nothing chases the presence of God out of the room quicker than strife. Pursue peace at all costs.

Then, Seek ye first the Kingdom of God (which is righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit) and all these things shall be added unto you. When I put God first and keep focused on Him throughout my entire day, focusing on him no matter what I am doing, I can feel a literal difference in the atmosphere. I feel the presence of God and the presence of God brings power, without His presence for long you will grow weak. If you draw near to Him, He will draw near to you. Under the Shadow of the Almighty what can harm you or influence you? Immerse yourself in the things of the Spirit and your spirit will be unable to remain small and feeble. Read, meditate, pray, or do whatever brings you closest to God. I take a bath or walk on a treadmill (two situations where I won't get distracted and do something else) and sing to Him, or talk to Him, or meditate on the great things He has done in my life, and that brings me into His presence. I also love to watch teaching tapes by excellent teachers, when I do I can feel the stirring in my spirit. When I do these things I feel God's presence magnify a hundred fold and so does the strength in my spirit. Staying in God's presence (which is life in the Spirit) is key to spiritual strength which is key to overcoming your adversary.

Finally, another key in my life to a strong presence of God is to put on the armour of God. When I say put on the armour of God I mean; live truthfully, live in faith, be saved, be righteous, live peacefully wherever you go. Don't just go through the motions of putting things on like some people do by saying things like, 'My feet are shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace'. I am not saying it is wrong to pray and remind yourself to live this way what I am saying is there is much more to this than that. Instead of having your feet shod with the knowledge and understanding of the gospel, literally take with you every where that you go knowledge and understanding by studying. Live in this manner instead of only praying in this manner. Living the virtues listed in Ephesians, and not just praying or speaking them, are your armour against every evil.

When I am obedient to God and living an obedient lifestyle by being diligent to overcome, I feel His presence and His power. Jesus said, My Father is always with me because I always do those things that please Him. I know that living in peace and living with character please God, and those things usher in His presence when you are doing them to please Him.

Lastly, pray the Lord's prayer. Lord, lead me not into temptation but deliver me from evil. I say pray the Lord's prayer because HE IS our DELIVERER. He will deliver EVERYone who comes to Him. The bible shows us that not one person who sought deliverance from the Lord was ever turned away. Meet Him and you will have the petition you ask of Him.

These are the things that help me to remain strong and to grow spiritually and I know they will help you too.

Amen and Amen is all I can say. I totally relate to this Mia, totally! One other thing about the thorn. When we give the thorn to Him and lay it at His feet and refuse to pick it up again then we have the deliverance. It is making it about Him instead of about us. Does that make sense. He is our strong defense and refuge. When we lay it at his feet and refuse to pick it up it is releasing it in the spiritual to him and our refusing to pick it up is us saying we choose Jesus over the problem every time.
