God a Matchmaker?

Post by daphanie02 on Sat Sep 20, 2008 9:31 pm

You’ve all heard me say that God showed me my husband through dreams and visions. There is not an instance of someone in the bible being shown their mate this way. This presents a large question with a loaded answer. Is what I’m claiming biblical? The answer is YES.

Job 33:15 says: “In a dream, in a vision of the night,
when deep sleep falls on men
as they slumber in their beds, he may speak in their ears
and terrify them with warnings, to turn man from wrongdoing
and keep him from pride, to preserve his soul from the pit, [b]
his life from perishing by the sword.

Numbers 12:6 says: he said, "Listen to my words:
"When a prophet of the LORD is among you,
I reveal myself to him in visions,
I speak to him in dreams. But this is not true of my servant Moses; he is faithful in all my house. With him I speak face to face,
clearly and not in riddles;
he sees the form of the LORD.
Why then were you not afraid
to speak against my servant Moses?"

The bible clearly states that God speaks to prophets through dreams and visions and also uses dreams to guide people from the wrong paths in life. God doesn’t JUST warn us through dreams, He also shows us happy things to look forward to. Joseph dreamed he would rule over his parents and brothers and unfortunately bragged about it before it came to pass. (See Genesis chapter 37) I told my husband God told me he was the one through dreams and it weirded him out a bit. blushing I should have kept my mouth shut and allowed God to do His work, but I was so excited about it that I shared. Fortunately running my mouth hadn’t run him off! praiseGod After praying over it, God showed my husband that He DOES speak through dreams and visions and my husband began sharing dreams he’d had about a woman that was obviously me before we even met.

Next question; Is there such thing as ‘THE ONE’ person God has for us? Here is some scripture I have compiled together along with 7 points that will prove there is. happy dance

1. God has a helpmate for us.

Genesis 2:19 " Now the LORD God had formed out of the ground all the beasts of the field and all the birds of the air. He brought them to the man to see what he would name them; and whatever the man called each living creature, that was its name. So the man gave names to all the livestock, the birds of the air and all the beasts of the field. But for Adam no suitable helper was found. So the LORD God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep; and while he was sleeping, he took one of the man's ribs and closed up the place with flesh. Then the LORD God made a woman from the rib he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man. The man said,
"This is now bone of my bones
and flesh of my flesh;
she shall be called 'woman,'
for she was taken out of man."
For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh.

God saw that man needed a helpmate; someone to help him and share his life with.
God has a helpmate for you if marriage is something you desire. (please see 1 Corinthians 7 for Paul’s views on marriage. Marriage is a choice and isn’t for everyone)

2. God doesn’t want just anyone to be joined with His chosen vessels.

Genesis 24:1 "Abraham was now old and well advanced in years, and the LORD had blessed him in every way. He said to the chief servant in his household, the one in charge of all that he had, "Put your hand under my thigh. I want you to swear by the LORD, the God of heaven and the God of earth, that you will not get a wife for my son from the daughters of the Canaanites, among whom I am living, but will go to my country and my own relatives and get a wife for my son Isaac." The servant asked him, "What if the woman is unwilling to come back with me to this land? Shall I then take your son back to the country you came from?"
"Make sure that you do not take my son back there," Abraham said. "The LORD, the God of heaven, who brought me out of my father's household and my native land and who spoke to me and promised me on oath, saying, 'To your offspring I will give this land'-he will send his angel before you so that you can get a wife for my son from there. If the woman is unwilling to come back with you, then you will be released from this oath of mine. Only do not take my son back there." So the servant put his hand under the thigh of his master Abraham and swore an oath to him concerning this matter.

Abraham made his servant promise an oath to bring his son a wife based on the word God had spoken to him. (“to your offspring I will give this land.”) He had faith that God would send an angel out before his servant to choose the right woman.
Genesis 24:10 “Then the servant took ten of his master's camels and left, taking with him all kinds of good things from his master. He set out for Aram Naharaim and made his way to the town of Nahor. He had the camels kneel down near the well outside the town; it was toward evening, the time the women go out to draw water.

3. God does/can/will choose for us.

Genisis 24 "Then he prayed, "O LORD, God of my master Abraham, give me success today, and show kindness to my master Abraham. See, I am standing beside this spring, and the daughters of the townspeople are coming out to draw water. May it be that when I say to a girl, 'Please let down your jar that I may have a drink,' and she says, 'Drink, and I'll water your camels too'-let her be THE ONE YOU HAVE CHOSEN for your servant Isaac. By this I will know that you have shown kindness to my master."

God does have someone special chosen for His sons and daughters and if we seek Him for guidance, He will reveal them to us. Abraham’s servant asked of the Lord to show him which woman God had chosen for Isaac. We can also ask God who He has chosen for us to be with.

4. Gods perfect timing.

Genesis 24:15 “ Before he had finished praying, Rebekah came out with her jar on her shoulder. She was the daughter of Bethuel son of Milcah, who was the wife of Abraham's brother Nahor. The girl was very beautiful, a virgin; no man had ever lain with her. She went down to the spring, filled her jar and came up again. The servant hurried to meet her and said, "Please give me a little water from your jar."
"Drink, my lord," she said, and quickly lowered the jar to her hands and gave him a drink.
After she had given him a drink, she said, "I'll draw water for your camels too, until they have finished drinking." So she quickly emptied her jar into the trough, ran back to the well to draw more water, and drew enough for all his camels. Without saying a word, the man watched her closely to learn whether or not the LORD had made his journey successful.
God has PERFECT TIMING to set up the match. Notice that even though Rebekah came out before the servant finished his prayer and offered to water his camels, the he was still unsure if she was the one. Even though she possessed all the qualities that would be most fitting for Isaac; He still needed confirmation.

5.God provides confirmation.

When the camels had finished drinking, the man took out a gold nose ring weighing a beka and two gold bracelets weighing ten shekels. Then he asked, "Whose daughter are you? Please tell me, is there room in your father's house for us to spend the night?"
She answered him, "I am the daughter of Bethuel, the son that Milcah bore to Nahor." And she added, "We have plenty of straw and fodder, as well as room for you to spend the night."
Then the man bowed down and worshiped the LORD, saying, "Praise be to the LORD, the God of my master Abraham, who has not abandoned his kindness and faithfulness to my master. As for me, the LORD has led me on the journey to the house of my master's relatives."

It is clear that the Lord provided confirmation to Abraham’s servant. God had chosen Rebekah and confirmed it with something that was most important. She was a woman of God’s people. (click on this link for more on asking God for confirmation: http://miasherwood.forumotion.net/teaching-equiping-posts-f9/is-it-ok-to-ask-for-confirmation-from-god-t1144.htm)

6. Matches made by God are truely devine.

The following verses lead on to tell that the servant relays the meeting to her family. His only concern is that they may not allow her to leave if she chose. I can remember receiving my answer to prayer, my confirmation from God, and still having an obsitcle before me. My husband had not received confirmation yet. In my case, God told me my husband was the one He had chosen for me before I met him. It is comforting to know that there were people in the bible who were matched by God and didn’t even know each other. It was a divine match that was accepted in faith, and guess what? They were the perfect match! I suggest reading Genesis 24 for the entire story. It’s a wonderfully inspiring read and it makes me cry every time.
Genesis 24:47
"I asked her, 'Whose daughter are you?'
"She said, 'The daughter of Bethuel son of Nahor, whom Milcah bore to him.'
"Then I put the ring in her nose and the bracelets on her arms, 48 and I bowed down and worshiped the LORD. I praised the LORD, the God of my master Abraham, who had led me on the right road to get the granddaughter of my master's brother for his son. 49 Now if you will show kindness and faithfulness to my master, tell me; and if not, tell me, so I may know which way to turn."
50 Laban and Bethuel answered, "This is from the LORD; we can say nothing to you one way or the other. 51 Here is Rebekah; take her and go, and let her become the wife of your master's son, as the LORD has directed."
PRAISE GOD!!!! A MATCH DIRECTED BY THE LORD!!!

7.God speaks to us through dreams to guide us and show us things to come. He is also a match maker! God wants His chosen vessels to marry believers. (2 Corinthians 6:14 says to not be yoked with unbelievers.)

We’ve also learned that we can ask God to show us who He wants us to be with and provide confirmation. If there be any obsticles after God has given His word, then have faith! God is not a liar, but is true to His word!
How do you know if God is giving you these dreams about your future mate? Ask him to confirm it another way. God not only showed me through dreams and visions, but also with the bible and as I was at the altar at church, wide awake and in His presence. He also confirmed it by telling my husband that no one would make him happier than me.
Hope this ministers to someone. Blessings and Love to you all!
Daph

Yes, it does minister Miss Daph!! You are my confirmation...I must say. You have been the ONLY person that I've EVER met that has actually experienced this in dreams and have seen the manifestation.

Now more than ever, I have ran across materials and heard different people say that God WILL NOT choose your mate for you because He gives us "choice". It didn't shake me one bit because I've had enough dreams and proof about my future husband...and he knows about me too (I just received some confirmatiom from God about that idea )

Thanks for the scripture references...I will mediate on these FOR SURE!!!

LOL Doh

Hey how come in all of my dreams my lover ends up being Jesus! HAHA! He is the best husband around but I would like to have a husband who has skin on.The Lord is good if it is just him and me that is fine. I so love him and so desire his will for my life then step into a relationship where I was out of the will of my Father.

Hey I posted on the personal prophesy area about how I ended up in Africa all through a dream.

Hey Jeanie!!

It's okay to desire a natural husband and I believe God has one for you especially because you desire one. I laughed out loud when you wrote "one with skin on it"... rolf x I hear ya girl!!! As we draw into the Love of God and allow Him to fill us, then when the one with "skin on it" shows up, he will be an addition to what God already is in our lives.

From one unmarried sister to another!! okay
